| The average age of participants determines the age group. This average must include all persons appearing on stage anytime during a number. When an average age ends in a fraction, it will be rounded down to the nearest whole number. Names, ages and birth dates of all contestants must appear on the entry form or it will not be accepted. Contestants will be responsible for producing proof of age to contest director should a question arise. Failure to do so can result in disqualification and forfeiture of award. PROOF OF AGE MUST BE AVAILABLE AT EVERY CONTEST. All ages are set as of the competition date for each regional; however, at Nationals, all contestants will compete in the same age group that they qualified in at regional. If a duet/trio or group has ANY CHANGES of performers between Regional and National, TICKET TO BROADWAY will re-average the age with the new performer (s) and they must compete at the new average at Nationals. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Adult Act: Any act in which 25% of the participants are 21 or older or any one participant is 21 or older and a full-time dance studio owner or dance teacher. An adult act can win the category but will not be eligible for top awards, e.g. in a duet, if a participant is 21 or older, it is an adult act. In a group, if one performer is 21 or over and a full-time owner or teacher then it is considered an adult act. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| One contestant can not compete more than once in the same category and age group in solo, duet/trio, small group, large group or super group competition | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Entries must be postmarked 21 days before a regional and 30 days before a National competition date. ENTRIES POSTMARKED AFTER THAT DATE MUST BE SENT EXPRESS MAIL OR FAXED TO OUR OFFICE WITH A MONEY ORDER OR CASHIER'S CHECK (original form must be mailed stating that it had been faxed). Entries are limited by the amount of performance time available. ENTRIES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE. TICKET TO BROADWAY reserves the right to cancel any competition. In that event, all entry fees for that contest will be refunded or transferred to another contest. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SCORING INFORMATION | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Competitive Division are as follows: PERFECT PLATINUM -145 to 150, PLATINUM - 132 to 144.9; HIGH GOLD - 115 to 131.9; GOLD - 95 to 114.9; SILVER 50 to 94.9; BRONZE - 49.9 or below. The scores necessary for the Recreational Division is as follows: GOLD - 120 to 150; SILVER- 80 to 119.9; BRONZE - 79.9 or below. All participants in a Ticket To Broadway Regional competition in both Recreational and Competitive Divisions qualify for a National competition to be announced. Any discrepancy in score sheets must be brought to the attention of the TICKET TO BROADWAY directors on the day of competition. No protest of score or age will be accepted after the day of the contest. ONLY TEACHERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO SEE THE MASTER CONTROL SHEET OR STATE A PROTEST. Contestants will be judged by a panel of competent judges and all entrants agree that the time, manner, and method of judging the contest shall be solely within the discretion of the directors and producers of TICKET TO BROADWAY; and that all decisions of the judges are final. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| REGIONAL/NATIONAL AWARDS: Awards are based on composite scores and NOT on placement within an age group; therefore, there may be several Platinum trophy winners within one age group in a category. All Solos and all members of a Duet/Trio in the Recreational and Competitive Division, each will receive an individual trophy; groups will receive one trophy for the studio with awards for each member of the group. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SPECIAL AWARDS: At a performers request, if an act does not perform within its age category, will not be eligible for top awards. The following awards will be presented in the Competitive Division only. (The following Special Awards will not be awarded during the qualification rounds prior to the start of Nationals) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Regional: Top Solo: $65.00*, Top Duet/Trio: $85.00*, Top Small Group: $85.00*, Top Large Group: $100.00*, Top Super Group: $200.00*, Top Adult Act: $25.00, Choreography: $50.00. Nationals: Top Solo: $125.00*, Top Duet/Trio: $175.00*, Top Small Group: $225.00*, Top Large Group: $300.00*, Top Super Group: $300.00*, Top Adult Act: $75.00, Miss or Mr. Broadway: $200.00, Ticket To Broadway: $300.00. All second & third place overall high score winners will receive an award at Nationals. All Overall High Score Winners will be announced at our Grand Awards Ceremony pending the outcome of our Semi-final round. *Cash awards at Regional and National Competitions will only be given if there are at least THREE entries in the category. All ties for top awards (Regional & National) will not be broken and will be divided equally among those ties. Trophies will be duplicated for all acts involved. At least one performer from an act must be present to accept any awards. | MISS/MR. BROADWAY AWARD: A special trophy will be awarded to the contestant in the solo category that is judged to be the most entertaining from any qualifying acts of the contest. This will be a decision in the sole discretion of the directors and judges. When there are five or more male dancers in any one division (Petite, Junior, Teen or Senior), Ticket To Broadway will separate the Mr. & Miss Broadway Awards into two distinct categories...Mr. Broadway and Miss Broadway. for that particular division | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| TICKET TO BROADWAY AWARD: A special trophy will be awarded to the group that is judged to be the most entertaining from among any qualifying acts of the contest. This will be a decision in the sole discretion of the director and judges | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| GENERAL INFORMATION | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Failure to comply with these rules can result in point deductions or disqualification. It is the responsibility of the studio owner/teacher to review the rules and regulations with both the participants and their parents. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There will be a service charge of $40.00 for any check returned by a bank. After a check has been returned by a bank, all future entries or purchases must be made by money order or cashier's check. If payment has not been received on a returned check by the competition date, the contestant will not be allowed to perform. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Cash prizes are payable in the name of the dance studio. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Entries are accepted on a first come/first served basis and are limited to performance time available. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| For each act qualifying for Nationals, one act may be added. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Reduced size groups will be permitted at Nationals. If a group goes down to two or three, it becomes a duet/trio. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Contestants must enter the same category in the Nationals for which they qualified in regional. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There will be time set aside at Nationals to qualify any additional acts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| All contestants must furnish their own music on a good CD. TICKET TO BROADWAY recommends 1 song per tape. We do not recommend downloaded digital CDs as they do not work with all stereos. If there is any change in the music such as breaks, delays, Acappella or additional tracks to the same routine, it must be brought to the attention of the sound desk prior to the performance. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There will be no admission charge at the door. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Fire, swords, knives or live animals on stage are prohibited. Props are allowed, however, special scenery, special lighting, smoke or electrical devices may not be used. Contestants are responsible for getting props on and off stage as quickly as possible. Do not leave props backstage. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A tentative time schedule and directions to the competition location will be sent to all dance studios approximately five days before the competition date. If you cannot perform at your scheduled time, due to costume change, advise the person back stage and the announcer and the act will be moved. Note: All performers should be aware that at times, Ticket To Broadway does run ahead of schedule. Only if you have made prior arrangements with the announcer and back stage personnel, can you perform late without penalty. YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO PERFORM 1 HOUR AHEAD OF YOUR SCHEDULED TIME. If you request that your act be taken out of age group for any reason - your act will be adjudicated by score and not placed within its age group. The act is then not eligible for top awards. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Studio Directors/Contestants give their permission to the directors of TICKET TO BROADWAY to use their photographs or video of any act in connection with advertising, promotions or news coverage of our competitions without further authorization or compensation. Studio Directors/Participants are performing with the knowledge that the event is being videotaped. Those not wishing to be to be videotaped have the option of not performing. In this situation, there will be no refunds. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Trick Definition: Rolls on the floor are acceptable. One trick done simultaneously by members of a Duet/Trio or Group is counted as only one trick. Passes do not count as one trick, e.g. Round-off - Back Handspring would be counted as two tricks. When the feet pass over the head, it is counted as a Gym-Acro trick; however, rolls on the floor are acceptable, e.g. shoulder rolls, front and back rolls. All categories, other Gym-Acro and Acro Dance categories may have no more than 3 Gym-Acro tricks as part of the routine. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| ACRO-DANCE: A routine using any style of dancing which incorporates 1 to 8 gymnastics tricks. This category is for a routine that is mostly dance with 1 to 8 Gym/Acro tricks. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ACTING: The performance of a part or role in a drama or comedy | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| BALLET*: Routine must consist of Ballet technique movements. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| BATON: A routine using baton (s) and baton technique. Will be judged on both Baton and Dance technique. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CHARACTER ROUTINE: A routine portraying an easily recognizable character throughout; with music, costume, and dance. Must incorporate some form of dance. No straight vocal performances are permitted in this category. This is also the category for Musical Theater. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CONTEMPORARY: Routine consisting of contemporary Jazz technique. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| GYMNASTICS/ACROBATICS: Routine must demonstrate gymnastic moves incorporated with rhythm of music. The routine must be mostly Gymnastics/Acrobatic moves. This category must have more than 8 tricks in the routine. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HIP HOP: Current trendy style of today's dance. Must Contain 80 % of hip-hop style. Examples: MTV, current videos, street style dance. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| JAZZ*: Routine must consist of primarily Jazz technique. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| LIP SYNC: A portrayal of a stereotype or impersonation through pantomime and costume; mimicking the voice on the tape. The Lip Syncing must be performed to all words on the tape, this will be judged on dramatic impact and does not require a specific form of dance. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| LYRICAL DANCE*: Routine should demonstrate balance, extension, isolations, and control using contemporary lyrical styles. The dance should somewhat tell the story of the music. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| MODERN DANCE: A form of dance based on interpretation or other origins of dance, performed in an abstract or contemporary mode. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| MUSICAL THEATER: A routine featuring any style of dance interpreting a song from a "Broadway" or movie musical. Singing is permitted. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| NOVELTY: A routine that incorporates two or more styles of dance or a routine that does not fall under one of the other categories. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| OPEN: Any type of routine can be entered in this category. This is also the place to put your second Tap, Jazz, etc. number; but the number must be different from your original category number. No performance can be questioned for category placement in open. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| POINTE*: Same as Ballet, but must be performed in hard toe Pointe shoes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| POM-PON: A routine incorporating the use of Pom Pon. Should use precise and definite movement. Will be judged on both Pom Pon technique and dance steps, moves, and choreography. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| PRODUCTION: Must have ten (10) or more members in the group; incorporating different styles of dance or formations and/or rhythm changes. This category has been allotted a maximum of ten minutes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SONG & DANCE: Must contain both singing and any style of dance (Tap, Jazz, etc.). Accompaniment must be on tape or CD. There must be absolutely no lead voices on tape or CD. .Microphone will be provided. No special equipment may be hooked into TICKET TO BROADWAY'S sound system. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SUPPLEMENTAL: Any type of routine can be entered in this category. This is also the place to put your second Tap, Jazz, etc. number; but the number must be different from your original category number. No performance can be questioned for category placement in supplemental. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| TAP*: Routine must contain tap technique and primarily Tap work. If tap sounds are on tape or CD, this should be entered into OPEN or NOVELTY. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| VOCAL: Routine can be any type of Vocal presentation showing musical range, pitch, style, and timing. Accompaniment, if used, must be on tape or CD Microphone will be provided. No special equipment may be hooked into TICKET TO BROADWAY'S sound system. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY: Any routine that has been choreographed by a dance student who is 20 years of age or younger. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| PHOTOGENIC: All entries in this category must send a single recent 5 X 7 or 8 X 10 photographs in black and white or in color to our office TEN (10) days in advance of the event. Any photos submitted after the Ten (10) day requirement will be charged a late entry fee of $20.00 (plus initial registration). This category is divided into four aforementioned age divisions. One person can enter more than a single photograph. Each entry must be accompanied by a separate fee. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
